Nasara is a social enterprise, that not only empowers artisans around the world but also donates 100% of its profits to its charity partner Create Change Foundation.
At Nasara, like many small online companies that feature unique handmade products from around the world, we support artisans by working with them on designs, assisting them with business practices, and ensuring they get a fair price for the beautiful work they produce.
There are a number of foreigners around the world who have fallen in love with the traditional craftwork that can be found in cultures all over the world, and many know how much they can inflate the price of these goods to sell at home to Western markets to make a decent profit for themselves.
Create Change Foundation & Nasara.ca founder Shannen O'Brian discusses with a basket weaving cooperative in Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana, how to set up a bank account.
The difference however is any profit made from these products does not help a foreign traveler, but rather goes back to Create Change Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to empowering girls living in extreme poverty to become leaders through education, confidence building, and opportunity.
Nasara.ca was started by Create Change Foundation's founder Shannen O'Brian, as part of Create Change's mission to become 100% self-sufficient. With the world of fundraising for international causes becoming increasingly unpredictable, Create Change set out on a mission to become sustainable. The organization is starting a series of enterprises where it is located in Northern Ghana, including a Café, a Bakery, a Daycare and a Poultry Farm. All businesses equally act as training schools for marginalized girls.
Another key strategy of Create Change to derive a sustainable source of funding is through Nasara.ca. Over the past few years, the organization has been developing relationships with artisans all over West Africa, working with them to curate high quality products to be sold through Nasara.ca to help Create Change on its journey to become 100% self sufficient so it can continue its valuable work empowering girls living in extreme poverty to become leaders.
So when we say at Nasara.ca that 100% of our profits support girls education, we mean it.
